Top Bridesmaid Duties

Planning a Hen Party?

BRIDESMAID DUTIES

Now that you have been given the duty of chief bridesmaid you need to know what to expect.

THE BASICS

Being asked to be a bridesmaid and share such the run to their momentous day is such a great honour. It can be scary but it’s important to know that not every bride expects the same from there bridesmaid.

Being there for the bride physically and emotionally is the most important job of all. We believe that these 3 tips are the most important:

  •  Follow the Brides instructions & smile whilst doing it.
  •
  •  Even if the instruction is a bark or a scream the perfect Chief Bridesmaids smile should never leave her face… believe me, your patience will be tested ladies, it can be a very stressful time for some brides – they dont mean it, its just stress.
  •
  •  Your most important job before we get to your main duties is to ensure that the Bride is treated like & truly believes that she is a Queen on her all important day.

BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY

Every bride is different and what they expect from the bridesmaid can vary drastically from one bride to another. It might be a good idea to have a chat with your bride very early on to gauge how much she expects from you.

HELP PICK THE WEDDING VENUE

Some couples pick the wedding venue on their own but some brides love to go with their bridesmaid to check out lots of different venues, make a day of it, have some lunch and whittle it down to a select few to decide between.

This might mean attending venues, wedding fairs or wedding venue open days.

HELP PICK THE WEDDING DRESS

Some brides like to bring their chief bridesmaid with them wedding dress shopping. Most brides wait until they have it whittled it down to a few before bringing the full entourage with them.
Bridesmaid dresses

HELP PICK THE BRIDESMAID DRESSES

It can be a very daunting task for a bride to pick the bridesmaid dresses.  A few things to keep in mind is colour scheme, shapes and sizes of all bridesmaids and ensuring everyone feels comfortable in what they are wearing.

ACCESSORISE

There’s so much more to it than just the dress. Help with shoes, jewellery, perfume, make up and much more.

LISTEN AND COMFORT

Wedding planning is a huge undertaking and can be very stressful for the bride to be. Be there for her if she needs help dealing with suppliers, family or emotions.

Possible things that might come up

  • Guest list
  • Table plan
  • Cancellations
  • Suppliers

PLAN THE HEN PARTY

Some brides know what they want or what they dont want for a hen party but it is the bridesmaids duty to plan, book and execute the event.

Don’t worry we have everything you need to plan the hen party to rival all hen parties. Feel free to give us a call on 0906479753.

THE WEEK OF THE WEDDING

Every bride is different and what they expect from the bridesmaid can vary drastically from one bride to another. It might be a good idea to have a chat with your bride very early on to gauge how much she expects from you.

BE AVAILABLE

The week before the wedding can be quite intense with last minute jobs that need to be done. It might be necessary to make yourself as available as possible if required maybe even take a few days off work.

Things that might come up during the week before the wedding:

  • Last minute shopping
  • Venue Decoration
  • Dress alterations
  • Bridesmaid dress collection
  • Wedding dress collection
  • Rehearsals
  •

CREATE A WEDDING DAY SURVIVAL KIT

A survival kit for the day of the wedding can be very handy to have on the day.

DISCUSS THE DAY

Have a chat with your bride of what is happening on the morning of the wedding.

  • Hair
  • Makeup
  • Transport
  • Breakfast
  • Make sure there is bubbly ready
  • Itinerary

It is a great idea to get an itinerary so you know exactly who should be doing what & when.

  • List of suppliers

Get a list of suppliers with contact details so if needed you can have their details to hand.

THE DAY OF THE WEDDING

Every bride is different and what they expect from the bridesmaid can vary drastically from one bride to another. It might be a good idea to have a chat with your bride very early on to gauge how much she expects from you.

MAKE SURE SHE HAS A GOOD MORNING

This is your moment!

Make sure the morning of the wedding is magical, happy and upbeat.

  • Make sure everyone eats breakfast.
  • Pop on the playlist.
  • Make sure she doesn’t drink too much bubbly with breakfast.
  • Ensure its a calm, happy space no dramas!
  • Remove any dramas
  • Be on hand to get her into her dress, shoes & jewellery.
  • Make sure everyone gets to the church on time.
  • Look after the flower girl morning preparations.
  • Take lots of selfies.
  • Ensure her bag for that night with make up remover, make up and clothes for the next day is package and gets delivered to the honeymoon suite.

BE HER RIGHT HAND WOMAN

Throughout the day it is your duty to make sure she has everything she needs:

  • Top up her make up if required.
  • Carry a handkerchief for the happy tears.
  • Help her go to the toilet.
  • Carry the brides essentials such as phone etc…
  • Fix her dress throughout the day for photos.
  • Have that emergency kit to hand.
  • Help with photos – rounding people up can be hard for the photographer if he doesn’t know people.
  • Mingle with the guests as she might not get around to everyone.
  • Arrange for bubbly/flowers/balloons in the brides room.
  • Take her bouquet throughout the day.
  • Be available for the first dance.
  • Take envelopes from guests (be sure to discuss this with the bride beforehand).
  • Make sure everyone signs the guest book.
  • Help her change if she is having an evening outfit.
  • Encourage guests to dance.

Keep Calm

The most important of all – No matter how stressed you get ….DO NOT TELL THE BRIDE!!!!!!

Make it seem as easy as pie and SMILE!

DIY Hen at Home

Planning a Hen Party?

DIY Hen party at home

Hen Party at Home – Our Top Tips! We are over 10 years organising hen parties all over Ireland.

Good Luck!

Do not underestimate how much work there is to organising a hen party at home.

It takes alot of meticulous planning, patience and quite a bit of money to do it right!

Sometimes we forget when planning a hen party that your friends have a lot to pay out for when invited to  your up and coming nuptials, wedding gift, hotel stay, new outfit etc but what can be a good option is to have your hen party at home. You can use your parents house or a close family member if they don’t mind.

Where...

We do live in Ireland and as a result rain is nearly always imminent but if the weather looks good in summer months you can plan to have your very own festival.

Set up a DIY marquee or set up just outside in the garden with your Christmas fairy lights and set up a speaker with your very own play list.

Even though this is a DIY at home hen it is still going to cost money for food and drinks but it will be a fraction of the cost of going away for the weekend. Set out an” entry fee “for everyone to cover these costs.

Dresscode

The good thing about having a hen party at home is that you can choose the dress code. You do not have to worry about restaurant/bar rules its on your home turf so you make the rules. If you are having a garden party I’m sure everyone has a pair of denim shorts they could wear.

You do not have to state there is a dress code if you do not want to but if you are going for boho or fancy dress it would be good to let people know. The choices are endless.

The Food

If you are having a hen party at home then the choices are endless.

Get someone in to cater

Get a family member to help you do a BBQ – This is alot of work to do right so be sure you are able for it.

Order Pizza

Takeaway

Just nibbles

Its completely up to you.

The Drinks

B.Y.O.

Let everyone know it is bring your own drinks, have plenty of clean buckets of ice around the garden for everyone to keep their drink cold.

If your budget allows and money left over from the food, you could set up a table with bottles of prosecco and have a prosecco bar.

Games

You have a few choices for the entertainment/games section of having a hen party at home.

Book a Hen Party Activity

You could book a professional hen party activity provider to do something like the old school sports day/the cube etc.

Games

You could be creative and do a few games of your own.

Get Nostalgic

Get all your hens to bring along 1 gift that represents a time shared with the bride to be, all sit around and get the hen to open up the gifts and see if she remembers the story and who it is from .

Mr & Mrs Quiz

Run a Mr and MRS quiz have the answers from the Groom already and get the game started.

Check out our blog on the Mr & Mrs Quiz here

Planning is key!

Just remember that there is alot of planning involved with a hen at home. This is Ireland so don’t rely on the weather have a back up plan IE the sitting room and kitchen. Just remember it’s not where you are it’s the people you’re with- Relax and have fun.

Why Hen Houses are the biggest Trend in 2021

Planning a Hen Party?

Why Hen Houses are the biggest Trend in 2021

Simply host your Hen Do in a Hen House or Apartment and you’ll be on the right track to having the best Hen party for your group!

They’re the self-catering way to make your Hen Do exactly how you want it to be.

Host your hen do in a hen house or apartment and you’ll be on the right track to having the best hen party for your group!

Between bringing your own drinks, relaxing any way you want to, being your own music DJ and even saving money, Hen Houses or Apartments simply tick all the boxes.

You can Relax!

With Hen Houses comes a chance to fully relax and leave the hustle and bustle of a busy night outside the House. With the freedom of having your own base comes the chance to spend the Hen party however you like.

Have you own little pamper party as you all do each other’s nails, hair and makeup while you sit around in your most comfy pyjamas. No need to get glammed up in your best outfit for a night on the town. No need to don those high heels (unless you want to, of course). But one thing’s for certain. A Hen House offers the ultimate relaxation experience a Hen party can have!

Less Hassle!

Simply bring your own bluetooth speaker and you’re the DJ for the night. If a song isn’t just right you can simply skip to the next one. If your drink isn’t just right, you can add more or less without the hassle of shouting at the bartender over the volume of the music. Hen Houses take the hassle out of the equation. They also allow you to have the perfect night in with your girls.

You cannot loose anyone

We all know how nights out can go…

you go for a meal, hit the bar and after that people get broken up into smaller groups – its quite hard to keep the group together for the whole night a hen party house suits if you want to keep everyone together.

old school sports day galway hen party activity package 3 TheHen.ie

Comfort

You have the opportunity to have a fantastic activity in the house – no need for taxis and moving people.

Choose from a sports based game for the garden or a afternoon tea with Mrs Doyle from Fr. Ted. The battle of the bridesmaids gives you a chance to dress up while Draw a Nude is a great crowd pleaser. Bringing your own drinks to the Hen House and  enjoy the games, the fun is completely in your hands. Therefore, so is the budget! However, when it comes to the price of the Hen House or Apartment, we recommend planning ahead.

Sten Parties

Planning a Sten Party?

Sten Parties

A Sten party combines both the stag and hen, which is especially popular when the hen and stag have the same friendship groups.

In these uncertain times even getting a group together for a Hen or Stag party can be a challenge. Everyone is so busy and with the possibility of restrictions in place group numbers can diminish when it comes to confirming. That is why some of our groups are booking ‘Sten’ parties, which combines the hen and stag. You just chose the same date and destination and we do the rest!

What is a Sten Party?

A Sten party combines both the stag and hen, which is especially popular when the hen and stag have the same friendship groups. We have received raving reviews from some of our recent Sten parties, with one group saying they would never have considered this until we made the suggestion, but it turned out to be the absolute perfect weekend celebration!

Accommodation for a Sten Party

A Sten works really well in either a self-catering house, or glamping site, where you have the freedom to choose whatever accommodation suits. Generally, the group splits for accommodation, but if you would rather a mix of couples and friends that is completely up to you.

Finding Ted Hen party activity Galway TheHen.ie

Activities for a Sten Party

When booking a Sten it is worth considering two activities, one day time and one evening time. We can offer either two separate activities to suit the combined group or run the guys and girls activities separately. If you are looking for a combined activities the Cube or In It To Win It works really well, as we split the group into teams for a battle of the sexes! Alternatively, you could consider a Drag Show or Draw a Nude while the guys enjoy an outdoor activity of their choice. The group will dine together as a group, after which you can enjoy more challenges or hen and stag party games. In the evening time we can arrange a Show to suit all, or perhaps our new dance class, Strictly with Liam, where you will learn a variety of group and couple dances ahead of the big day.
Finding Ted Hen party activity Galway TheHen.ie

After your evening activity it’s off to a bar for your night out, or if you’d rather entertainment may be arranged for you in the house or glamping site.

The more the merrier, so this is a great option to suit many couples.

There are so many options to choose from, so please do get in touch to discuss.

A Sten may just be the perfect alternative for your bride and groom to be and will provide a fun filled weekend to be remembered by all.

There are so many options to choose from, locations, accommodation, activities, deposits, WhatsApp groups – the list goes on! It can be a huge commitment of time and energy.

Number one rule – relax!

This is a wonderfully enjoyable experience. Yes, there is a lot to do, but there are so many options out there which can assist you. Don’t forget to share the load among the other bridal party. Come together to discuss what aspects need to be organised, your strengths and weaknesses, and who should do what. Cooperation makes everything run smoother and leads to a much more enjoyable experience.

What does the Bride want – It is her day after all!

Firstly, have a good conversation with the bride to be. Sometimes there are certain ideas she would love to incorporate, and definite no no’s. You must always consider the bride, as this weekend is for her. She needs to really feel the love and experience a hen party to remember! Keeping the location secret can be a lovely surprise, and do not forget location is not the most important thing – once the group is together and enjoying themselves it really doesn’t matter!

Do not get too many opinions!

Try and keep the planning and organising to the bridal party only. The more you ask the more opinions you get, and this can be mind boggling! The easiest way to do this is pick a location among yourselves, and do not involve the wider group until you are sending out dates, location and activity selection.

Think about the budget

Not everyone has the funds to go overseas, or to a luxury destination. Be mindful of everyone and pick an option to suit you all.

Consider using a booking agent

This is an absolute no brainer for so many hens! You just pick up the phone or send a mail, give a date and location and the rest of the work is done for you! Once you have a destination in mind the company will outline all the options available to you, and the different prices. You choose the option to best suit your group. The company will organise the accommodation, reserved areas, dinner and activities – simples!

Choose a Great
Hen Party Activity

An activity is always a great option! You can choose something simple like a cocktail class or afternoon tea, or go for a high energy, fun activity such as Finding Ted, CSI Save the Groom or In It to Win it. Every option has been carefully thought out with groups just like yours in mind. Activities are an excellent way to break the ice and set the mood and are a wonderful talking point. Oftentimes we forget various elements of a weekend away, but the activities tend to stay with people, especially the more fun options!

Consider a Theme

Some brides want to keep it really simple, while some go for hilarious stand out themes. We have seen it all, and there are no bad ideas! Have a think and decide if a theme is best for your group but do be mindful of budget when you consider your costume choices. If a theme is not an option, some groups tend to all wear black and leave the bride in white or dress up the bride alone in an hilarious costume!

Keep it Simple!

Some of our best hens have been the simplest – you do not have to go crazy when it comes to keeping everyone entertained. There are a multitude of games you can organise yourself in your accommodation or hotel – there are so many ideas on-line.

And Breath!

When you think about it there really is no need to stress – just relax and enjoy the best weekend ever!
