With over 30 facilitators and models all over the country every weekend… life is very busy. With over 1500 Hen and Stag parties a year we are busy in the office which is based in Athlone.
The STORY SO FAR...
The Leap of Faith
Catherine came up with an idea to help hens organise exactly what they desire and need to have the perfect Hen Party in Ireland. That idea was a simple one. A one stop shop for Hen parties to simple organise every aspect of their Hen Party in Ireland.
No hidden costs, simply great parties!The Hen.ie (Formerly Known as Belles and Blazers) is the creation of Catherine Murray AKA “Cat”. After 8 years in the Food and Beverage industry, Cat spent 3 years in a front office & reservations role in a hotel, where she fell in love with the buzz of organising and creating great hen and stag parties.Cat set about researching the best hen & stag locations, hotels, activities, bars & nightclubs all over Ireland and in January 2011 Cat brought Belles and Blazers to market at the Bride of the Year Show in the RDS.
Launched BellesandBlazers
Our website went live in January 2011, Not to much fanfare, but we were determined to get the name out there and make more hens happy!
Launched Draw a Nude
We realised that the life drawing doesn't suit all groups and people were crying out for a fun interactive activity. So we launched our fun filled fast paced draw a nude activity. This quickly became one of Ireland's most popular hen party activities. We have since discontinued this activity.
Launched CSI Save the Groom Activity
In 2015 CSI Save the Groom with the Garda Inspector was Catherines Brain child. A one hour brainstorm later and a storyline about a meerkat smuggler named Claude Le Boux and his wife Genevieve was born. There has been thousands of happy groups in Ireland from our CSI Save the Groom activity and it remains very popular.
Our First Office
After running Belles and Blazers from the box room in Cats house for 5 years and equipment and staff growing out of the space - It was time for Belles and Blazers to stand on its own two feet so it moved out to an office in Mardyke street in Athlone town.
Our Fun Treasure Hunt was Born
While in the swing of things we thought the logical step would be to add a fun treasure hunt....not your brown map and a compass type treasure hunt but one designed for hen parties. Again after a brainstorm a hunt for treasure with hilarious weird and wonderful hen specific tasks designed to get a group mixing and in high spirits was created.
Finding Ted The Father Ted Experience was brought to life
After running a Father Ted Themed hen party for Cats friend "Mrs Doyle" the need for Father Ted Themed hen parties in Ireland became apparent. From there two seperate hen party activities Finding Ted The Father Ted Experience and Mrs Doyle and Her Grannies was born and soared in popularity and remains popular year on year.
Mrs Doyle & Her Grannies was also born the same year
You might call these tow activities twins as they were both created on the one car journey from Carlingford to Athlone. The Mrs Doyle and Her Grannies was released to the public finally an activity for a granny's themed hen party!
Battle of the Bridesmaids was created
Armed with 20 vintage 1980's bridesmaids dresses sourced from all over the World some even being bought in Australia. The Battle of the Bridesmaids hilarious 1980's themed hen party activity was created and launced.
The Cube was launched
After years seeing it being done to a substandard level we decided it was time to take the bull by the horns and run it the way it should be. Team Competitiveness personified!
In it to Win it was also born
The Cubes better sister was born. The In it to Win it is specifically designed with hen parties in mind. Competitive timed challenges like The Cube with a Rap thrown in for good measure all designed with group synergy in mind! "My face is sore from laughing" is a popular quote from groups who do this activity!
Rebrand from Belles and Blazers to TheHen.ie
After 8 years of successful business Catherine decided to re brand the business from Belles and Blazers to TheHen.ie
It was a huge success and the company is growing from strength to strength.
Catherine was Shortlisted for Image Business woman of the Year 2019
In 2019 Catherine was Shortlisted for Image Business woman of the year!
TheHen.ie gets a New Office
With the business set to expand a new office was in order so TheHen.ie moved to its new abode in Monksland Business Park.
March 2020
Covid hit all over the world and with over 600 groups on our books at the time for the year ahead we worked tirelessly to help everyone to rearrange the hen party. We worked all through covid booking groups for months ahead, then cancelling or rescheduling again as we got closer the date. It was a tough time but we pride ourselves on being a personable helpful and accommodating company during this difficult time for brides and bridesmaids.
January 2022
Our team expanded to a team of 8 in the office and over 30 facilitators running events.
We are out the other side and thriving.
